Fairy Either I mistake your shape and making quite, Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite Call'd Robin Goodfellow: are not you he That frights the maidens of the villagery; Skim milk, and sometimes labour in the quern And bootless make the breathless housewife churn; And sometime make the drink to bear no barm; Mislead night-wanderers, laughing at their harm? Those that Hobgoblin call you and sweet Puck, You do their work, and they shall have good luck: Are not you he?
Puck: Thou speak'st aright; I am that merry wanderer of the night.
-William Shakespeare A Midsummer Nights Dream Act II, Scene I
Okay, if I add any more to this painting I think I will utterly ruin it. So it's time to let it go, I think.
This is one of my favorite scenes in A Midsummer Night's Dream. It's so playful and flirtatious and fun. Both characters have always, to me anyway, read as a little cheeky. Puck is trying very hard to impress the dewdrop fairy, and she's flirting for all she's worth. If only their respective royalty didn't come along and spoil the fun...
Again, this is set in my Ante-bellum Fantasy version of the play.
Also, there is not a good place for illustrations that *aren't* technically fan art, so I'm guessing on the appropriate gallery for this.
Edit: Why does dA brighten all my colors, I wonder. Noticed after uploading that a layer had flattened incorrectly. Should be fixed now.
Also, I wanted to dedicate this painting to Josh, and Ryan, tricksters who both exited the stage far too soon.
We're reading this in English class right now, but I had already read it prior to that, and I also think that it's a very fun scene. I like this rendition too, very pretty

Thou speak'st aright; I am that merry wanderer of the night. I jest to Oberon and make him smile When I a fat and bean-fed horse beguile, Neighing in likeness of a filly foal: And sometime lurk I in a gossip's bowl, In very likeness of a roasted crab, And when she drinks, against her lips I bob And on her wither'd dewlap pour the ale.
I this so much!!! Truly wonderful. I pressurised my Drama groupt to do William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream instead of some other play. I mean, why mess with perfection? Even worse, they wanted me to play Titania? Pft. I think I made a fabulous Puck My favourite character ever. Mr mischief himself.
Love love love. This has long been my fave of Shakespeare's plays, and Puck was my favorite character far and away... and you've presented him so wonderfully here! Great pose, and love the interaction between the two characters!
